Why an Iridium spark plug?
- Iridium spark plugs from NGK are currently the most technically advanced solution. They feature an iridium alloy tip on the middle electrode. This tip is laser-welded in place using a special method.
- The precious metal iridium is one of the hardest metals in the world. It only melts from 2450 °C and is very resistant to spark erosion. Using this metal doubles the service life of these spark plugs compared to standard spark plugs.
- Thanks to this precious metal, the middle electrode can also be made with a thickness of 0.6 mm, i.e. substantially thinner. This measure significantly reduces the necessary ignition voltage and contributes to improving the expansion of the flame front in the combustion chamber.
- Iridium spark plugs generate a self-cleaning effect. Regardless of the operating temperature, electrical discharges take place in the ring gap between the middle electrode and insulator.
